It has been a long time since writing on this blog. Thank you to those who have waited patiently for me to return. My life has changed somewhat over the past 6 months. I did very well with my Level 5 Course on Art Craft and Design. So well I was accepted to attend the Crawford College of Art and Design to study for a BA in Applied Art. Very much a huge and happy surprise. Needless to say the workload is massive and there seems to be a lot to do all the time. Really enjoying it though. Lots of homework and learning. I can only admire people who study for degrees and work at the same time. Well done to you.
POEM FOR AUTUMN
By
Patricia Lorraine Poulter ©2017

I open wide the window to let out the last breath of summer and allow to enter the first breath of Autumn.

To trade the long warm days for those of cool, damp evenings.

Farewell to days of idleness

And hello to days of expectation.

Days of fruitfulness, of ripening apples, of growing pumpkins, of plump blackberries bulging in the hedgerows.
To listen to the fall of leaves, to the winds of hope, to gentle whispering mists of rising days,
Of footprints in the rain.

To behold nights of starry mysteries, of catching memories as they flutter by on leaves,
Of bright moons in deep blue velvet skies that tell of promises of things to come.

The swirling winds that howl and gather up the fallen,
The churning of trees bowing to the Gods demanding their winter long sleep
thieving the boughs, until nought but bare.

The farmer puts up his hoe, he tills one more time, this death is not the end.
The seed not gathered is blown asunder and lies dormant until the spring.

A time of reflection, of remembrances, of thoughtfulness.
A moment of thoughts of future kind.
A time of merging shadows, of sliver beams, of softening rays of gold.

Autumn, you have arrived.

Take Me Home-A Poem by Lorraine Poulter

Wandering thought of rainy days
Of bleary sun through grey damp haze
Brings songs of home, so far away.
Memories of family, friends, once children at play.

Of fields of many shades of green.
Of leafy lanes, birdsong unseen.

Take me home on every raindrop falling
To once more touch the soil, I hear you calling.

Take me home, to room no more.

My portfolio made it through the first round of selection to the Crawford College of Art in Cork. However it all now depends on the points gained through my Level 5 qualification in Art Craft and Design. Results in July. Points will be totalled then. A long, long wait.

Sunday, 12 March 2017

Just a small note. Creative Writing in Cork has absolutely nothing to do with any other writing groups in Ballincollig. We are a group of writers who like to meet to read our stories and enjoy being with like minded people. We are not a closed group although our group is small. We are open to new members. Anyone wishing to be part of our group please message me on fb.

Big day this Monday. I have a portfolio meeting at the Crawford College of Art. Been busy sorting out the best bits to put into the portfolio. Huge competition though. There are only 25 places up for grabs on the course I want to do. This is likely to be one of those events that will have to remain a pipe dream. If you don't at least try, you will never know.

Saturday, 25 February 2017

Anyone who would like more information about the writing group or is interesting in joining please message me via the Creative Writing in Cork Facebook page. I will be happy to help.
